Their Eyes Were Watching God: Ch.2

In this chapter the Nanny sees Janie kissing Johnny and immediately assumes the worst. She gets so scared that she right away marries her off to an old farmer named Logan. The nanny does this because she is old-schooled and thinks the sooner a young girl is married off the better. I can relate to this because in my culture the older women in my family have the same mentality...the think that once a girl is of a certain age, it is part of their job to send their daughter off to get married. They don’t seem to put into account the girls’ feelings or if the girl even has met this guy once.
