In this chapter Janie is so unhappy with her marriage with Logan the farmer. SO because of this she trails off and starts flirting with "Jody" Starks. She thinks of him as everything that Logan isn’t. She falls for him rather quickly. SO quickly that she fails to realize how much he is changing her. She had to change herself to fit his super busy, lavish mayor lifestyle. He has such an impact on her that she wastes away 20 years of marriage seeking love in him, but failing to realize he only had one love-- his position as mayor.
